Levantine Public Diplomacy successfully tilted at its biggest windmill to date: the World Cup!
LPD was honored to send two American Music Abroad alumni bands to Brazil with the U.S. Embassy to do cultural diplomacy programming in conjunction with the World Cup and July 4th festivities.
LPD sent The Clinton Curtis Band, who toured the Caribbean, Central and South America on the AMA 2012-2013 season, to Vitória, Recife and Brasilia to share their rock, blues and roots music. They got a taste of Brazilian styles of Congo, Frevo and other musical delights of the Samba Nation.
Meanwhile, our favorite public diplomacy knight-errant escorted the Dulcinea Dellas through Southern Brazil. Grammy-nominated Della Mae, who this Quixote toured with through Central Asia, will be visiting Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Campo Grande and Sao Paulo to share their bluegrass music. The Dellas get to learn some Chorinho music along the way, and created their own new style of music “Chorograss.”
